3 ways to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day

21 May

In case you’re not sure what the hell Bitcoin Pizza Day is, on 22nd May 2010 Laszlo Hanyecz asked a Bitcoin Talk forum user to buy him two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC. It was considered the first bitcoin transaction and what a worthy purchase it was! Since then we’ve come a long way and bitcoin users can buy quite a lot of stuff with their favourite digital currencies these days as easily as you would spend fiat.

To celebrate this first transaction, every year, Bitcoin Pizza Day has been celebrated by overdosing on pizza. This feels like the best way to celebrate anything and actually would be happy if Christmas was replaced with Pizza Day II.

For our UK, bitcoin customers, there are a heap of Gift Off gift cards that lead to glorious pizza, so no matter what your preference… deep pan, super thin and crispy, oven ready, delivered to your door, meaty, cheesy, veggie, you will be able to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. I for one will be using it as a better excuse than usual for gorging on doughy, tomatoey, cheesy goodness.

Here are 3 ways to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day via Gift Off:

1. Get if delivered to your door

Our recent addition, Hungry House, means you can get local pizzerias to deliver straight to your door. Takeaway pizza is the ultimate treat especially if you have a great local that delivers the freshest Italian dishes. We end up doing this quite a lot after a busy week or a particularly long day. Sides are optional, but highly likely.

Pizza Express also do a takeaway service. You have to go and collect from your local restaurant, but yum, it’s worth it. My favourite is the Padana with goats cheese and caramelised onions. Plus, dough balls.

2. Make a pizza yourself!

What? Actually make my own pizza? But… I want to sit in a huge dressing gown wallowing in pizza delivery joy. Well, not all of us are like that. Some people love a good bit of baking and this option also allows you to take charge of the calorie content of your pizza.

Plus, depending on what you choose as a topping, you might actually end up with a more lavish pizza than your average meat feast. You could also get some fresh or frozen pizzas from the supermarket too. Ideal if you’re on a strict pizza budget!

We’ve got ASDA and Marks and Spencer gift cards that can be used to make your very own Bitcoin Pizza Day treats.

3. Dine out with friends, family or all alone if you have to

We realised Gift Off now stocks loads and loads and LOADS of restaurant options. I’m sure this isn’t an exhaustive list of our restaurants that offer great pizza, but if you’re in the mood for stepping out for Bitcoin Pizza Day, these are the best of the best on offer at Gift Off.

ASK Italian: check out their new Rump Steak Tagliata with sliced, pan-fried, rump steak, sautéed mushrooms, rocket with balsamic, salsa verde, fresh chilli and rosemary. Gulp, yes please.

Strada: I love the look of their Vesuvio pizza with Nduja sausage, spicy salami, red and cherry peppers, basil and chilli oil. Nom nom nom.

Bella Italia: OK, getting hungry now. Bella Italia’s Pizza Marco Polo is the winner here. Shredded duck, spring onions and mozzarella on a sweet, aromatic, plum sauce base.

Zizzi: are doing everyone’s favourite, a pulled pork pizza! The Pulled Pork Napoli Rustica Pizza has pulled pork on a white base of Fior di Latte mozzarella and smoky scamorza cheese, pepperoni, crispy prosciutto, sun blush tomatoes, thyme and smoked garlic oil. Just to be clear now… pulled pork.

Excuse me while I go and eat pizza for breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper.

Hi there! I'm Gift Off's word-lady, writing words wherever they're needed to keep you all in the know about our awesome company. When I'm not wording, I am usually talking nonsense to my two cats, scanning Reddit, throwing away my belongings or planning a modernist, white and glass box to live in.
